Tips to Avoid Staining Your Teeth

Tariq Drabu is a leading dentist and specialist oral surgeon at Langley Dental Practice in Middleton. He provides patient with advice and recommendations daily to prevent damage
to their teeth. Tariq Drabu advised that one of the things he is asked about on a regular basis is how to eliminate tooth staining and enjoy gleaming teeth now and moving forward.

Use a straw

The first recommendation from Tariq Drabu on how to reduce the risk of staining your teeth is to use a straw. Straws are very effective in pushing liquid to the back of the mouth, rather than having it pass the teeth. This can also help reduce the risk of tooth decay. Whether you are drinking water or your favourite morning cup of coffee, Tariq Drabu recommends drinking it with a straw, keeping the liquid as far from your pearly whites as possible.

Stop eating and drinking foods you know will stain your teeth

Tariq Drabu advised that while this was obviously, eliminating foods and drinks from your diet which you know will leave you with tooth stains is the best way to avoid them. Coffee, blueberries, tea and more can all lead to unwelcome stains in the long run. Smoking is another leading cause of tooth stains.

In the event you do have a coffee with a friend or you cannot resist some blueberries, then brush your teeth no sooner than thirty minutes after consuming them. Use a fluoride toothpaste to remove any stains from your teeth.

Tooth whitening

A popular way to remove stains is tooth whitening, which is offered in almost all primary care dental practices throughout the United Kingdom Langley Dental Practice provide patients with two tooth whitening options, both closely supervised by Tariq Drabu and the team to ensure the best long term results.

Tooth whitening will not whiten the teeth, but it will help fight stains and it will lighten the teeth by a few shades. The first tooth whitening procedure offered is done in the dental chair while the other is a take home kit which is closely monitored by the team to ensure success.

Using an over the counter kit purchased from a non dental source is not recommended as it can have a negative impact on oral health in the long run, including making teeth sensitive and uncomfortable as a result.
